When it came to decide a theme for this project, the only thing that kept coming to my mind was that of a pumpkin patch. After photographing the neighborhood garden for inspiration, I just started drawing on my paper, letting the whimsy free and seeing where it would take me. The result included a bumblebee, a lady bug and a mouse.
Then, four weeks before the event, I suffered a major health setback. On the day of the festival, I fell very ill. I spent a fair amount of time in the first aid tent, trying not to hurl everywhere. This was the first time my auto-immune affected a chalk art event. Fortunately, other chalk art friends and colleagues rallied around me and pitched in to allow this piece to be completed. While the image itself was my own vision, the execution was a group effort. I could not have done it without them.
