The story continues… (to read the first part, go to the Kalispell chalk art page). We placed the finishing touches on our raft project around 6pm, Thursday evening. The next morning, Friday, we get up and fly back to Denver. The following morning, Saturday, we arrive at the Aurora Municipal center to work on our Globalfest piece.
Globalfest is a celebration of cultures, as Aurora is a melting pot of different ethnicities. In order to convey this idea quickly, I thought about what are universal elements that all peoples can appreciate and love. Music came to mind, and from there, this idea emerged. Titled, “A Musical Peace,” it is a hope that we can put aside our differences at least long enough to start to try and understand each other. Compassion is more effective than violence.
This being only a one day piece, we had planned on being there from 9am to 3pm, which usually is the limit before I reach exhaustion. However, at noon, the skies opened up and just dumped on us for about an hour. Everything worked on prior to that point was pretty much lost. The only thing that remained was a ghost image that we could sort of work from. As a result, our final finish time was 6pm, a nine hour day, and the conclusion of a back-to-back, three days of chalking in four days, whirlwind marathon. Very satisfied and very tired, I loved how this piece turned out.
